RECIPIENTS
The course is mandatory for mariners aiming to perform security duties roles on board vessels which apply the ISPS Code Parts A and B.
PREREQUISITE
No specific entry requirements are envisaged.
OBJECTIVE
The course, in compliance with Document no. 6 of the Italian National Maritime Security Program issued by the Interministerial Committee for Maritime Security (CISM) and with circular letter no. 006 of the Italian Coast Guard General Headquarters - Shipboard Personnel - Training, aims to provide the knowledge required for seafarers with designated security duties in connection with a Ship Security Plan to perform their duties in accordance with the requirements of the ISPS Code and section A-VI/6 of the STCW Code, while emphasizing the following points:
- Knowledge of current security threats and patterns;
- Recognition and detection of weapons, dangerous substances and devices;
- Recognition, on a non-discriminatory basis, of characteristics and behavioural patterns of persons who are likely to threaten security;
- Techniques used to circumvent security measures;
- Crowd management and control techniques;
- Security related communications;
- Knowledge of emergency procedures and contingency plans;
- Operation of security equipment and systems;
- Testing, calibration and at-sea maintenance of security equipment and systems;
- Inspection, control and monitoring techniques;
- Methods of physical seaches of persons, personal effects, baggage, cargo and ship stores.
